Congratulations on your engagement! You are one step closer to your happily ever after and spending the rest of your life with your loved one. When planning a wedding, there is a lot that goes into the big day. Choosing a date, a time, a location, the type of wedding, and, of course, choosing a wedding officiant. Whether you have someone you would like to pronounce you married or are looking to hire a Justice of the Peace or wedding officiant, it’s important to know what their role is on the big day so you know exactly what to expect when the time comes! Justice Lydon & Co. is here to help fill you in on what you need to know and how we can help with our unique wedding services. Learn more about the role of wedding officiants below, or contact us today!
Pre-Wedding Meeting
Before the day of your wedding, having a pre-wedding meeting with your wedding officiant will allow you to get to know each other better. To have the most meaningful ceremony on your wedding day, they need to know more about you, what you like/dislike, how you both met, your wedding goals, plans for the future, and so on. A strong connection with your officiant will make the ceremony a more customized and unique experience for you and your partner. This meeting is important because it’s also a time for you to ask the officiant any questions about the ceremony before the big day comes. Ask them how the wedding will go if they know, and the order of the ceremony and vow readings. It’s okay to be nervous for your wedding day, but working with the right wedding officiant will help calm your nerves and answer any last-minute questions so you can know exactly what to expect when the big day arrives.
Wedding Rehearsal
It is not mandatory for your wedding officiant to attend your wedding rehearsal, but the couple sometimes requests this for proper preparation. The wedding rehearsal is necessary for the wedding party to all come together and practice once before the big day. This ensures that everyone knows what to do, where to go, and what to say. Practice makes perfect, and having a wedding rehearsal will ensure no one is lost on the wedding day. If your officiant can attend, they can walk you through meeting them at the altar, what they plan to say, how the exchanging of the rings/vows will work and can answer any questions the night before your wedding. Learn more about what you can expect at a wedding rehearsal, and contact our team today.
The Big Day
The big day is finally here! Your wedding officiant will be eager to help calm your nerves and help you celebrate the magical day. They can help you before the ceremony begins by ensuring you have your vows and rings ready and the wedding party is lined up and ready to go. As the ceremony begins, they will wait at the altar for you and your partner to meet. They will then lead you through your vows and the entire ceremony. After you are pronounced married, they will sign your marriage license after the ceremony, making it official. A marriage certificate will soon be available, and you can obtain it from them or through the mail.
